Visual Memory Test
The online visual memory test assesses your short-term spatial and pattern recall capacity. Watch a grid of tiles illuminate briefly, memorize their locations, and recall them accurately as the grid expands in difficulty.
Visual Memory Test
Every round, blue tiles illuminate on a 5×5 grid for 2 seconds. Once they vanish, tap the exact same squares.
How to use
- Observe the grid as a pattern of squares briefly lights up.
- Memorize their spatial arrangement, grouping them in your mind.
- Click on the correct squares once the grid resets.
- Progress through increasingly larger grids with each successful level.
Cognitive Skills Assessed
Visuospatial sketchpad: the working memory component responsible for handling visual information.
Chunking capacity: the ability to cluster adjacent tiles into single mental figures.
Attention endurance: maintaining precision across consecutive trials.
Test Mechanics
The test starts on a 3x3 grid with three targets, gradually scaling in dimensions and target count.
Players typically have three lives before their final score level is recorded.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does this test measure?
It measures the capacity and retention speed of your visuospatial working memory.
What is a typical score on the visual memory test?
Most adults reach levels between 9 and 14 squares on the grid.
What strategies help remember larger patterns?
Organize adjacent lit tiles into recognizable shapes, letters, or spatial lines rather than memorizing individual spots.
Is visual memory trainable?
Yes, neuroplasticity allows working memory span to expand with consistent practice and chunking strategies.
